Miss Rainbow – Rebecca Elliott
Rebecca Elliott, aka Miss Rainbow is a dynamic and colourful innovator for the well being of children. Rebecca has worked with children all her life. Her world travels have taken her to almost every continent. Her global work with children has included; voluntary work in the former USSR, teaching English in Japan, working with street children in India, and voluntary teaching in West Africa.
For 14 years Rebecca has been a London inner city primary school teacher. She is consistently creative and persevered to develop the whole child, against a curriculum which often had a linear approach. Rebecca began to empower the children in her care with nutritional knowledge and the use of stretching to invigorate and stimulate health and general well being. She used practises such as yoga and meditation, dance and art. These offered the children a way to feel calm and peaceful and increase their self respect and confidence. Despite many of the children in her care being from ‘deprived backgrounds’, concentration levels rose and so did attainment, as a result of these practises.
Rebecca could also not ignore the daily evidence of how nutrition affected both the emotional behaviour and educational attainment of children. She developed her workshop; ‘Nuts about Nutrition’ which she took to community centres and festivals using a mixture of dance and drama to carry the healthy eating message. To extend her love of yoga to children Rebecca trained to teach yoga for 3-7 and 7-12 year olds which she used in schools, community centres and festivals. Rebecca is also qualified to offer healing through energy therapies.
As well as her love for children Rebecca is also a prolific writer, live show producer and performer. She has received many commissions for her vibrant poetry which she has performed live on stages in front of audiences up to 2,000 people. She continues to use her power of language to engage, educate and humour children.
Although Rebecca is still very in demand as a teacher she is now devoting more time to sharing her skills and knowledge with as many children as possible. “Why should just a few children have all the fun? “ she laughs, “I want to share it out!”. So, in 2007, to harness the seeds of decades of work and play with children – the company Blissed Kids was founded.
Blissed Kids is a pioneering company established to support children to become positive and happy members of society. Its unique framework for the reformation of the life of today’s children is both an inspiration and an urgently needed tool to benefit and enhance society now and as an investment for the future. 2010 will see the publication of the Blissed Kids Guides and the launch of an open access website for children.
“I am so excited to be involved with Nutri-Health!” said Rebecca. “As ‘Miss Rainbow’ I will be offering parents bite size tips for child development in areas such as; nutrition, friendship, confidence, respect etc. On offer will also be calming techniques to support anxiety in school or to promote easy sleep, and downloadable audios for relaxation and imagination as well as lots of unique and fantastic suggestions for Health, Creativity, Peace and Happiness!”
We are so happy to have Rebecca working with us, and we’re looking forward to bringing the first fruits of our collaboration to you regularly.
